ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar voiced serious concerns over recent regional tensions and highlighted the importance of dialogue, moderation, and diplomatic efforts by all parties to foster lasting peace and stability in the area.
He was engaged in discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi during the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan today. During their interaction, Dar stressed the significance of building upon the agreements outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2026.
The two ministers reaffirmed their countries’ enduring and strong bilateral relationship while reviewing the current regional developments. The Iranian Foreign Minister commended Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support and constructive role in promoting regional peace and security. He also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s assistance in facilitating the safe repatriation of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those involved in vessels intercepted by the United States. He further appreciated Islamabad’s coordination with Iran, the U.S., and other relevant entities to ensure their safe passage and return.
Both officials agreed to keep up close coordination and regular consultations on issues of mutual concern, reaffirming their shared commitment to regional stability, peace, and economic collaboration.
