WEB DESK: A suspected drone strike has hit Kuwait International Airport, igniting a major fire in fuel storage facilities, according to authorities.
Officials from Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) quoted civil aviation spokesman Abdullah Al‑Rajhi as saying the airport was targeted by drones allegedly launched by Iran and allied groups. The attack struck fuel tanks, causing a significant blaze, though no casualties have been reported.
The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions following the conflict that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel carried out strikes against Iran.
Across the Gulf, similar incidents were reported. In Bahrain, authorities confirmed a fire at a commercial site attributed to the ongoing hostilities. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said its air defences successfully intercepted multiple drones.
In waters near Doha, a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations. The vessel sustained damage above the waterline, but all crew members were reported safe and no environmental damage was detected.
A day earlier, KUNA had also reported a fire aboard a Kuwaiti oil tanker at Dubai Port following another suspected Iranian strike, again without injuries.
The Gulf region has increasingly come under pressure as Iran responds to US-Israeli military actions, with repeated warnings from Tehran about potential attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector.
