DUBAI: In a surprising decision, a Dubai court has ordered a hospital to sell its equipment in order to pay the outstanding salaries of its doctors, nurses, and other staff who had not been paid for several months.
Earlier this year, in March, the court appointed an executor to visit the medical facilities and compile a detailed inventory of the hospital’s medical equipment and furniture.
The seized items included high-value diagnostic tools such as X-ray machines and bronchoscopy equipment, as well as essential items like patient beds, infusion pumps, and blood pressure monitors. Among the most valuable assets was a catheterization cardiac system worth DH 1.7 million.
The private hospital had failed to pay its medical and non-medical staff, including doctors, for several months. To recover the unpaid wages, the court authorized the seizure of the hospital’s assets.
The ruling has sparked mixed reactions from the hospital’s employees, many of whom had endured months without salary. One doctor commented, “The hospital did not pay us for such a long time, and now, finally, we are seeing justice.”
