ECC approves Rs19 Billion allocation for PM’s Ramadan relief program

ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has sanctioned the release of Rs19 billion to support Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Ramadan relief initiative.

According to a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the finance ministry announced that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurengzeb chaired the ECC meeting remotely.

The statement emphasized that the immediate release of Rs19 billion has been approved to facilitate prompt distribution of aid to vulnerable families. The remaining funds from the proposed Rs25 billion will be allocated as needed, based on fiscal capacity, the ministry added.

“The Prime Minister’s Ramadan Relief Package 2026 aims to deliver targeted cash assistance to low-income households during the holy month, utilizing data from the National Socio-Economic Registry to ensure transparency and fairness in selecting beneficiaries,” the finance ministry explained.

It further stated that the disbursements will be made directly via banking and digital channels to guarantee secure, efficient, and respectful delivery of aid.

Additionally, the ECC approved Rs1 billion for operational expenses, with instructions for detailed cost breakdowns to be shared with the Finance Division to maintain transparency, fiscal discipline, and adherence to financial regulations.
