ECC Meeting Summoned In Federal Capital

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on finance, Dr Hafeez Sheikh will preside over his first Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting in Islamabad on Friday (today) after former finance minister Asad Umar stepped down from the cabinet.

The meeting will discuss an 18-point agenda. The meeting will be briefed about the plan for the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills.

A comprehensive restoration plan for Pakistan Steel Mills and a summary for the appointment of an advisory consortium for the mill would be tabled in the meeting, said sources.

Supplementary grant for Punjab Rangers, additional funds for the interior ministry, supplementary grant for explosive department, supplementary grant for National Savings Organizations and other issues would be discussed in the meeting.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan here on April 16, had reconstituted the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and had appointed his Advisor on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh as its chairman.

Cabinet Secretariat had issued a series of notifications about the new composition of the ECC.

According to the notifications, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh had also appointed head of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) and the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP).
