Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today announced holding of local bodies elections in Karachi division as per scheduled on October 23, under the second phase of local bodies election in Sindh.
An important huddle of the ECP was held today in chair of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja at the ECP secretariat In Islamabad.
The secretary ECP, secretary interior, secretary defence, Chief secretaries, Inspector General (IG) Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were in attendance.
The CEC Sikander Sultan Raja during course of the huddle stressed on importance of peaceful holding of by-elections and local bodies elections in all the divisions of Karachi as per the second phase of local bodies election.
The Secretary ECP apprised the meeting that all the preparations have completed for holding of by-elections in nine seats of National Assembly (NA) and three provincial assembly seats and the second phase of local bodies elections in all the districts of Karachi.
Secretary interior, secretary defence, Chief secretaries, IGs and representatives of other security institutions presented their separate point of view in the huddle.
The meeting decided that by-polls in the nine NA seats and three provincial assembly seats will be held as per scheduled on October 16.
On the other hand, the meeting decided that the by- elections at NA-45 District Kurram will not be held as per scheduled on October 16 as the law and order situation of the area is not better.
The by-elections in this NA constituency will be announced later, the ECP said.
