Islamabad: Further amendments in the election act 2017 bill approved in Senate, Upper House of the parliament through which the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has gotten powers to give dates for the elections.
Disqualification will be of no more than five years. While Jamat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) opposed the bill.
Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarrar said that the legislation is the authority of this parliament. In year 1973 the authority had given to the ECP.
Later (retd) chief of army staff gen Zial Ul Haq shaheed had given the powers to the president.
