Islamabad: A meeting was held at the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding local bodies election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in the chair of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The representatives of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were in attendance while the meeting reviewed preparations of local bodies election in Punjab and KP.
Representatives of Punjab and KP apprised the CEC about preparations regarding holding of the local bodies elections.
The law and local wing of the ECP briefed the meeting.
Sources said that the provincial governments of Punjab and KP are declaring coronavirus a difficulty in holding local bodies election while Balochistan government has taken prohibition order from a court. In Sindh the matter is lingering due to result of the census.
Sources said that in first phase the provinces will hold village council elections while it has been decided to decrease village council in Punjab from 25000 to 8000.
Punjab has given the date regarding holding of local bodies election. The local bodies election in Punjab will be held in Punjab in month of September.
