Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the local government elections in Islamabad Capital Territory.
A five member bench of the Commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja announced the verdict in a case regarding the matter in Islamabad today.
The elections were scheduled to be held on 31st of this month
Now, local bodies elections will be held on 125 union councils instead of 101. The ECP pronounced the reserved verdict.
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja remarked that delimitations is being carried out in Punjab for the third time adding that the number of UCs have been increased.
The CEC said that the Mayor will be elected directly and we have been thrown into difficulty. Who knows it the number of UCs be decreased again, the CEC said.
