LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the official list of candidates for the upcoming Punjab Senate by-election on Wednesday.
The list shows Abdul Kareem representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while Khadija Siddiqi, Abdul Sattar, and Ejaz Hussain are competing as independent candidates. Voting is scheduled to take place in the Punjab Assembly on July 21, as per the ECP’s timetable.
This vacancy was created following the death of Allama Sajid Mir, the former leader of Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith. Prof. Sajid Mir had been battling health issues for an extended period, undergoing surgery a month ago but unfortunately did not recover. He returned to his hometown in Sialkot, where he passed away due to a heart attack.
He survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter. Born in 1938 in Sialkot, Sajid Mir led his party for over forty years and served as a senator on five occasions, representing the PML-N.
