Islamabad (September 07, 2018): The Election Commission of Pakistan on Friday while rejecting the allegations of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman maintained that the General Elections 2018 were fair, transparent and impartial.
“Accusations lacking evidence is deplorable and contrary to the facts. Not respecting the mandate of public without any justification is against the rules of democracy,” asserted then ECP spokesperson.
The commission stressed that the tradition of pressurizing national institutions should end. “ECP is an independent institution and will not tolerate any sort of pressure,” the spokesperson responded.
It has also termed Fazlur Rehman’s demand for ECP’s resignation ‘regrettable’.
“If anyone has reservations over the elections, he should file petition as per procedure,” stressed the ECP.
Earlier on September 06, Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F) leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman called the present government a fake and unconstitutional demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner over alleged rigging in polls.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, the JUI-F leader said that all political parties had expressed their reservations over rigging in the election.
“Parties have not accepted the result of the polls. There is still time for the election commission to accept its failure and the chief election commissioner to tender his resignation,” said Rehman.
The JUI-F leader stated that the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal will start a campaign to raise awareness in the public. “The present government is a sham, the prime minister and the chief ministers are a sham,” Rehman told the media.
“The present government does not have diplomatic manners. The government has been handed over to the ineligible lot. The country needs to be saved now. We are ready to sacrifice everything for national freedom,” he said.
Furthermore, the JUI-F chief stated that the current leaders do not have the ability to defend the country. “The country’s armed forces are fully capable of defending the motherland. We pay tribute to the armed forces; the nation stands united with them,” said Rehman.
Responding to a question about the recently held presidential election, the politician said the opposition had decided to face Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), however, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) refused to vote for Shehbaz Sharif at the last moment.
“We were unable to understand the PPP’s move,” he mentioned.
