ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced a revised schedule for local government elections in the federal capital. Elections for union council general seats are set for 15 February.
Nomination papers can be submitted until 30 December, with the preliminary candidate list published on 31 December 2025.
Scrutiny of papers will occur from 1 to 6 January 2026. Appeals on nomination decisions may be filed from 7 to 10 January, with rulings issued between 12 and 15 January.
The final candidate list will be released on 16 January, and withdrawals are due by 17 January. Election symbols will be assigned on 19 January.
Previously, the Federal Constitutional Court issued notices to Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, the Election Commission, and other parties, seeking written replies. The court has deferred hearings to the third week of January 2026 while suspending the Balochistan High Court’s decision and maintaining the current schedule.
Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan raised concerns about holding elections that might later be invalidated.
