ECP reveals official date for local bodies election in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has confirmed February 15, 2026, as the date for local body elections in Islamabad.

As per the ECP, the election process will commence with the publication of public notices for nomination papers on December 19, 2025. Prospective candidates can submit their nomination papers between December 22 and December 27, 2025.

The scrutiny of these papers is scheduled from December 30, 2025, to January 3, 2026. During this time, objections and appeals can be filed from January 5 to January 8, 2026. The dedicated tribunals will review and resolve the appeals between January 9 and January 13, 2026.

Candidates have until January 15, 2026, to withdraw their nominations, following which a finalized list of contenders will be released on January 16, 2026. Election symbols will also be assigned the same day.

These elections signify an important milestone in promoting democratic governance by empowering Islamabad’s residents to select representatives at the grassroots level.
