ECP To Announce Verdict In Imran Khan Case On March 19

Islamabad (February 21, 2018): Election Commission of Pakistan on Wednesday announced to give verdict in a case against PTI Chairman Imran Khan for violating code of conduct during the electioneering in Lodhran and Jehlum By-Elections on March 19.

The hearing was conducted by a five member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza. On a query from the CEC, the counsel of Imran Khan Shahid Gondal said that the case is pending in high court and had given stay order on it till March 8.

The counsel asked to adjourned the hearing to which the bench postponed the hearing till 19 March and also announced to give its decision on the case after hearing the arguments the same day.Moreover, another code of conduct violation case against 120 PML-N leaders including Capt retd Safdar, Pervez Rasheed, Tallal Chaudhry, Bilal Yaseen was also postponed for 19 March.

It is pertinent to mention here that On February 09, the Election of Commission of Pakistan sent notice to PTI chairman Imran Khan and PTI candidate in NA-154 Ali Tareen for violation of election code of conduct during public gathering in Lodhran.

According to details ECP issued notice to Imran Khan and PTI candidate from NA-154 by-poll Ali Tareen for violation of election rules.

The ECP officials brought the notice to Tareen’s home that was received by the Tareen’s employee.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has informed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan not to participate in a rally related to the NA-154 by-poll as it is in violation of rules.Participate in Election Rally is Violation, ECP Informs ImranDistrict Returning Officer Hammad Ijaz wrote to the PTI chief directing him not to take part in today’s rally citing a Dec 20, 2017 order and its own code of conduct which bars lawmakers and ministers from visiting a constituency after issuance of the by-election schedule.

“ECP expects political parties, their leadership and candidates to comply with the code of conduct to increase public support for fair and transparent elections,” the notice reads.Moreover, it advises Imran to abide by the code of conduct in letter and spirit.
