Eid weather alert: Rain, Thunderstorms set to hit Karachi; Lahore could see drizzle, rain

KARACHI: The coastal city is forecasted to remain dry during the next 24 hours, but weather conditions could change as a westerly weather system influences most regions of the country, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to Karachi’s outskirts on the first day of Eid ul Fitr.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi is expected to enjoy clear skies with plenty of sunshine and dry conditions during the day. Temperatures are projected to stay between 29°C and 31°C, with nighttime lows around 18°C. Humidity levels are high at 86%, and winds are calm from the south.

After two rainy days, Karachi experienced a cooler night, and the PMD warns that rain might return to other parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Hyderabad, and along the coastal belt, with potential lightning strikes during the showers.

The department also predicts cloudy skies in Karachi on the second and third days of Eid, with partly cloudy conditions on the third day. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with maximums reaching 31°C to 33°C and minimums staying between 17°C and 19°C. Winds are forecasted to blow from the west to southwesterly directions.

A broader weather system is likely to bring additional rain to Sindh between March 24 and 27, affecting Karachi and other regions, including Kamber Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jamshoro, Thatta, and others.

In Punjab, widespread rain is anticipated on Eid Friday in several districts, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal, with some areas like Jhelum, Hafizabad, Lahore, and Dera Ghazi Khan also expecting showers. Hail is possible in some locations.

Lahore experienced around 8mm of rainfall on Thursday, with maximum temperatures expected to hover around 23°C. The weather remains unsettled across the province, with potential rain and hail during the holiday period.
