Eight newly elected KP senators take oath in senate session

ISLAMABAD: In a formal session of the Senate, eight newly elected members from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) officially sworn in as Senators under the leadership of Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani. The ceremony marked a significant step in the ongoing parliamentary elections process.

During the session, Chairman Gillani administered the oath to the newly inducted Senators, extending his congratulations and best wishes. The occasion was also attended by lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition benches, who offered their congratulations to the new Senators.

While most of the elected Senators participated in the oath-taking, three members—Murad Saeed, Azam Sawati, and Rubina Naz—did not take the oath during this session.From the total of 11 Senators elected from KP, some prominent figures include independents Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Afridi, and Noorul Haq Qadri; Niaz Ahmed representing PML-N; Ataul Haq from JUI-F; and Talha Mahmood representing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

The women’s reserved seats saw Rubina Khalid from PPP and independent candidate Rubina Naz being elected. On technocrat seats, independent candidate Azam Swati and JUI-F’s Dilawar Khan secured victories, ensuring a diverse mix of representatives from different political backgrounds.

In a separate development, Hafiz Abdul Karim of PML-N was elected from Punjab to fill a vacant Senate seat following the passing of Senator Sajid Mir. His election maintains the balance of power within the Senate and underscores ongoing electoral processes.Overall, the induction of these Senators reflects the evolving political landscape, with representatives from various parties and backgrounds contributing to the legislative process
