Election amendment bill becomes law after President signs law

Islamabad: President Asif Zardari on Thursday signed the election amendment bill after which the bill became a law.

Whereas the notification of the bill has been issued as well.

Under the new legislation the affadavit of loyalty to a political party will not be changed.

Moreover, political parties who will not provide a list of its candidates for special seats will not be awarded the reserved seats.

National Assembly, Senate and NA standing committee have approved the law.

PTI Challenges the bill in Supreme Court

On the other hand, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the election amendment bill in the Supreme Court.

The PTI in its petition has insisted the top court to declare the amendment unconstitutional and illegal.

The opposition key party adopted the view that after July 12 of the SC verdict regarding reserved seats it is right of the PTI to be given special seats.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government have been made party in the case.

The National Assembly (NA) as well as Senate have approved the election amendment bill in Election 2017 act.

Earlier, the standing committee of the NA has approved the bill with majority.

Federal Minister for Law, Azam Nazeer Tarrar

Federal Minister for Law, Azam Nazeer Tarrar said that legislation is only right of the National Assembly.

Taking part in the debate on the Election act amendment bill, the Federal Minister said that No one other has right of legislation, he said.

The Minister added that he will talk clearly under standing with 99 names of God Almighty.

He said that as many as 81 members of the NA submitted affadavits that they are part of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

Today they say they are part of some other party? he said that they should stand on one stand.

He said that we are bringing only clarification in the elections laws.

PML-N) leader Bilal Azhar Kiyani on the law

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Bilal Azhar Kiyani has apprised that the amendment approved in the election act 2017 clarified further about the party certificate.

Talking to media after approval of the amendment in the NA, Bilal Azhar Kiyani informed that the amendment will bring more transparency in the election process.

The MNA apprised further that the amendment bill also clarified about an independent member.

Earlier , the government has succeeded to carry out a vital legislation after the Supreme Court verdict on the special seats.

The government members approved further amendment into the Election Act 2017 today.

The bill was presented by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNAs Bilal Azhar Kiyani and Zeb Jafar jointly.

The amendment act reads that a candidate will be imagined to be an independant if he doesn’t submit a party certificate before getting election symbol.

No party will be eligible for getting special seats if it doesn’t submit a list of special seats during a deputed time, the amendment reads further.

The amendment more reads that a candidate express belonging with a political party one time in a deputed time will not be changeable.
