Election of KPK Chief Minister is unconstitutional. Faisal Karim Kundi

PESHAWAR: Governor Faisal Karim Kundi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declared the recent election of the Chief Minister invalid under constitutional grounds. In response, the opposition announced its intention to challenge the election in court.

In a statement, Governor Kundi asserted that as long as Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation remains unaccepted, the election of a new Chief Minister cannot be considered constitutional. Meanwhile, the opposition leader revealed plans to file a case against Sohail Afridi’s election.

Governor Kundi further stated his dissatisfaction with Gandapur’s resignation process, explaining that discrepancies in the submitted documents raised concerns. He added that Gandapur should meet him personally on Wednesday to resolve the matter, hinting at his readiness to accept the resignation during that meeting.

The Governor underscored his objection by highlighting that his office received two versions of Gandapur’s resignation, both bearing inconsistent signatures. This irregularity was cited as a pivotal issue in questioning the legitimacy of the Chief Minister’s election.

It is notable that Mohammad Sohail Afridi has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, the opposition boycotted the assembly session and staged a walkout in protest.
