Emergency meeting over inflated bills under chair of PM Kakar begins

Islamabad: The emergency meeting chaired by caretaker Prime Minister Anwar Ul Haq Kakar over inflated bill has commenced at the prime minister house.

As the premier is charing the meeting on the electricity bills, the countrywide protests against the exorbitant bills have entered consective third day.

The meeting will consult to provide maximum releif to consumers in the electricity bills.

Acting Minister for energy and electricity and respective ministry officials are in attendance.

The meeting will deliberated upon distribution of electricity and its prices by the energy ministry. The electiricity distribution company will also breif the caretaker Prime Minister.

According to a post by the PM office account on X, the meeting would include briefings from the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and distribution companies, while consultations would also be held to provide maximum relief to consumers regarding electricity bills, as directed by PM Kakar.

In July this year, the federal cabinet — headed by then prime minister Shehbaz Sharif — had greenlit a massive increase in the base tariff of electricity by up to Rs7.50 per unit against the national average tariff determination of Rs4.96 by the power regulator National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).
