Islamabad (October 8, 2017): The 12th anniversary of devastating earthquake which killed hundreds of thousands of people and caused massive destruction in Kashmir is being observed with solemn remembrance and as National Disaster Awareness Day today to commemorate the victims of disastrous earthquake that hit the upper parts of the country on this day in 2005.
The earth-shaking earthquake had rocked Kashmir and areas far and wide at 5:25 in the early morning of October 8, 2005. The 7.6 magnitude earthquake did shook the earth for minutes without giving any chance to the people any chance to escape.

Schools, hospitals, businesses, roads, bridges, homes, and infrastructure was badly damage while bodies were found scattered everywhere.
The quake resulted in death of thousands of people and injuries to many more besides heavy damage to the buildings in Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
The massive jolts turned multi-storey Margalla Tower structure in federal capital Islamabad into heap of debris and death.
Special events will be held today to pay homage to the victims of the disaster and raise spirits for facing the challenges in the post- disaster scenario.National Disaster Management Authority will be organizing various programs including flag march, cyclotrons, awareness march and a public ceremony at Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad today.Special prayers will be offered and candle vigil and sky lanterns lighting will be held at the end of the programs in the evening.
