PSL 2nd edition: McCullum replaces Azhar as Lahore Qalandars’ skipper

LAHORE: Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has signed by Lahore Qalandars for Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) second edition, who will replace Pakistan ODI captain Azhar Ali as skipper of the franchise.

Under Azhar Ali, Lahore Qalandars managed to win just two out of seven matches of the first edition of the league. Qalandars were the only team which failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the tournament.

McCullum, who is retired from international cricket, has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL) and in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The former Kiwis skipper is the third-highest run-scorer in T20 format with 6,955 runs at an average of over 31.

While briefing media at Lahore Press Club, Lahore Qalandars’ coach Aqib Javed said  that Qalanders had signed Brendon McCullum for two years contract. In wake of the nature of the shortest format of the game, Azhar Ali has been removed and McCullum will replace him as  skipper .

He said McCullum would  play major role in next edition of PSL for Lahore Qalandar’s.
