As many as 20 Indonesians were killed as a speed boat capsized in stormy weather near an Indonesian island on Wednesday while police has confirmed number of causalities.
The boat carrying 90 people capsized off the Indonesian island of Batam at about 5 a.m., said police.
The police said searchers had so far rescued 39 people. They also suspect that the tour was illegal and that the workers were undocumented because of the high fares that passengers said they paid.
According to a 51-year-old survivor, said the boat overturned amid heavy rain and high waves about two hours after it left Johor Bahru in Malaysia. He also said the boat was overcrowded and he was was saved by fishermen after swimming for about two hours.
A police helicopter and more than a dozen boats were involved in the search-and-rescue effort.
