Islamabad (February 14, 2018): More than 17,000 children were subjected to abuse in the country during the last five years however only 112 culprits were convicted including 25 awarded death sentences and 11 life imprisonments.
The report, presented in the National Assembly on Wednesday, stated that as as many as 17,862 children including 10,620 girls and 7,242 boys were reported to have suffered abuse in the five years from January 2013-January 2017.
A total of 13,267 First Information Reports (FIRs) against child abuse were lodged with the police during the four-year period, it stated.

It further said that 112 culprits accused of child abuse are convicted including 25 who were awarded death sentences while 11 convicts were given life sentences.
The report which is prepared by Sahil-an NGO working on child issues-said that as many as 11 cases of child sexual abuse are reported from across Pakistan every day.
The Minister for Human Right Mumtaz Tarar also tabled a bill titled Safeguarding Children Bill 2017, which was adopted unanimously by the house. The bill would be implemented in Islamabad territory only.The House also discussed the horse trading issue in Senate. Sahibzada Tariq Ullah said that Imran Khan should inform regarding the name of person who offered him Rs 40 crore. “Concealing name of the person is a crime,” he said adding that all parties should unite to legislate in order to halt horse trading.
The deputy speaker said that if all parties agree upon the issue then an amendment could be brought for action against horse trading.
