Govt would be responsible if CEC appointment delayed:Shah

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said that he would talk to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership about appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan. He said that Government will be responsible if Chief Election Commissioner’s appointment is delayed.

While talking to the media in his chamber in the National Assembly, he said that the government would be responsible for delay in the CECP appointment as Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has not contacted yet in this regard.

Shah said that he would consult Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner.

Shah said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was yet to contact the opposition about the CEC’s appointment. “Government is delaying this issue,” he said.

About the existing political situation, Shah suggested that talks should be held with the Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The opposition leader said that all issues, including the formation of judicial commission, could be discussed if Imran Khan was willing.

He also pleaded cooperation from the PTI Chairman to reduce the term of Parliament from five to four years.

Shah said that there must be bilateral talks between the government and the PTI. He said that had Imran Khan come to the table for talks, all matters including Judicial Commission would have been discussed. He urged Khan to maintain longevity of the Parliament for four years.
