Islamabad: Senate, NA session prorogued after ruckus

Deputy Speaker NA has prorogued session for an indefinite period after hot arguments between governmental and opposition members after demanding for PM’s resignation in NA by joint opposition, whereas session in Senate also prorogued due to rumpus on demanding of PM’s resignation.

However, a ruckus broke out in both houses of Parliament after opposition lawmakers, wearing black armbands, demanded the prime minister to step down until a joint investigation team (JIT) completes its investigation in the Panama Papers scandal.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Aitzaz Ahsan in his address on the floor of Senate said, “PM Nawaz should accept that he has been disqualified.”

PTI’s Azam Swati said apex court judges had clearly said the prime minister did not remain “sadiq and ameen”.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in NA Khurshid Shah advised Nawaz to save Parliament and democracy by stepping down from premiership. “Two judges have disqualified him,” Shah said, adding the formation of a JIT to probe Panama Case was a ‘drama’.

Shah requested the deputy speaker to allow the PTI chief to address lawmakers but his request was turned down. This led to a protest by opposition lawmakers who tore down copies of the agenda and later staged a walkout from the NA.
