Governor opens 765th Urs celebrations of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar

Sehwan(May15, 2017): Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair has  inaugurated the three-day long celebrations of 765th Urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar amid tight security.

Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair flanked by PPP leader Nisar Khoro laid traditional wreath on grave of Sufi saint Hazrat Qalandar Lal shahbaz.

Syed Ghulam Shah Jilani, advisor to CM Sindh as saying, “All kinds of basic facilities including water sabeels, heat stroke centers and medical camps arrangements were done by Auqaf department for devotees.

On February 16 this year, a bomb blast ripped through the shrine of Qalandar causing loss of 86 people and 253 had received injuries, after which shrine was closed for pilgrims, but this time strict measures are being taken by the local authorities.

Jamshoro Deputy Commissioner Munawar Ali Mahesar said that unprecedented security measures had been made. The DC informed that 4,500 policemen and 500 personnel of the special branch in addition to the Rangers and the Bomb Disposal Squad would perform the duty for the security.

Besides deployment of heavy police contingent in and around the premises of the mausoleum, Army and Rangers have also been put on alert to meet any untoward situation during the Urs celebrations.

The activities of the devotees are being monitored through closed circuit television cameras as well as drone cameras while the devotees are being allowed to enter in the premises of the shrine from walk through gates and body search.

More than 70 people including women and children were martyred and over 250 sustained critical injuries in a suicide attack at the shrine of Sufi Saint Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in February this year.
