24 Power Projects to be Executed Countrywide: Senate Told

Islamabad (October 25, 2017): The Senate was informed on Wednesday that five power projects having capacity to generate two thousand five hundred and twenty megawatts electricity have so far been completed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project in the country.

Replying to a question during the Question Hour, Minister of State for Interior, Muhammad Talal Chaudhry said that two of these projects have been completed in Punjab and three in Sindh province.

To a question, he said twenty-four energy projects will be completed under CPEC all over the country that will help overcome energy shortage in the country and end power loadshedding.

Talal Chaudhry said out of these, thirteen projects will be completed in Sindh, five in Punjab, three in Balochistan, one in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two projects will be completed in Azad Kashmir.

To another question, he said the scope and outreach of the ongoing poverty alleviation programme like BISP, Bait-ul-Mal, Prime Minister Health Insurance Programme and Prime Minister Youth initiative has been extended to cover more people with higher allocations during the current fiscal year.

He said the outreach of the BISP is now 5.7 million households which is much higher than just 3.7 million households in 2012-13 which implies additional support to benefit around 12.5 million people below the poverty line.

The Minister of State said a substantial increase in the funds allocation has been made.

He said the size of the national PSDP has been increased by 37.3 per cent to enhance provision of the public goods and creation of opportunities for the poor strata. He said multidimensional poverty incidence in the county has declined during 2013 and 2015 from 40.8 per cent to 38.8 percent.

Talal Chaudhry said two thousand one hundred and thirteen billion rupees have been allocated for national PSDP during the current fiscal year while 121 billion rupees for BISP and two billion rupees have been allocated for Pakistan Poverty Fund.

He said 45 billion rupees have been allocated for Relief and Rehabilitation of the IDPs, 30 billion rupees for Prime Minister’s Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme and 12 billion rupees for Special Federal Development Programme.

The Minister of State said 20 billion rupees have been allocated for Prime Minister’s initiatives and 6 billion rupees for Bait-ul-Mal.

He said the huge allocation of funds will help for poverty alleviation in the country.

To a question, Minister for Law Zahid Hamid informed the House that Federal Board Revenue has collected 765 billion rupees during the first quarter of the current year. He said a revenue target of 4013 billion rupees have been set for the current fiscal year.

Answering a question, Minister for Law Zahid Hamid said that due to the government’s efforts exports have increased by 12.2 percent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
