COAS, Turkish Defence Minister Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Rawalpindi (June 21, 2017): Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is on an official visit to Turkey, agreed upon the potential for cooperation in the field of security policies, defence production and human resource training with the Turkish defence minister, said a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Matters related to the regional situation and bilateral security cooperation were also discussed.

Gen Bajwa appreciated the indigenous technical capability achieved by Turkey and said that Pakistan has great technological and industrial potential which opens the scope for very meaningful defence cooperation between the two countries, added the ISPR statement.According to the army’s media wing, the two agreed upon the tremendous potential for cooperation in the fields of security policies, defence production and human resource training.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Turkey Sohail Mahmood was also present during the meeting.

Earlier, Gen Qamar visited Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and was briefed about the projects being undertaken by TAI in both military and civil aviation industry.TAI has developed particular expertise in helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). He also visited the facility and took an introductory flight in T129 attack helicopter.

Speaking on the occasion, the COAS appreciated the indigenous technical prowess achieved by Turkey.

“Pakistan has great technological and industrial potential which open the scope for very meaningful defence cooperation between the two countries,” he added.
