Riyadh(June 24, 2017): The Supreme Judiciary Council of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) will meet today (Saturday) to witness the Shawwal (Eid al Fitr 2017) crescent.
The Supreme Court of KSA has asked locals to contact local authorities if they get any pieces of evidence regarding Crescent sighting.
Muslims in the Middle East, Europe, and the US will be anxiously waiting for the announcement of Eid Al Fitr as the majority in Western countries follow Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Hijri calendar.
On the other hand, a moon sighting committee under the Minister of Justice, Sultan bin Saeed Al Badi will convene after Maghreb prayer on Saturday, 29th of Ramadan at the Judiciary Department in Abu Dhabi.
However, the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), according to astronomical calculation, has already announced that Eid will be celebrated on June 25, 2017.
According to Islamic customs, every month begins with moon sighting. It may cause a variation of the date for Islamic holidays, as the moon sighting begins at sundown the day before the date specified for the holiday.
