PM Chairs ECC Meeting To Take Important Decisions

Islamabad (August 29, 2017): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Tuesday at the PM Office.

Sources said the allocation of gas from Makori field and Liquefied Petroleum Gas Air Mix projects came under discussion during the meeting.

Moreover, the meeting approved the issue of subsidy on wheat for Gilgit-Baltistan as well as discussed a report on margins for oil companies and dealers.

The issue of releasing Pakistan Steel Mills’ employees’ two-month salaries was also approved in the meeting. The employees have reportedly not been paid salaries for five months.

On August 11, a notification was issued stating that the prime minister will be heading the ECC, instead of its then chairman — Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

The committee includes ministers of communications, petroleum, commerce, industries and production, information, law, planning, railways, food and power and water.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) began after the ECC meeting.

Ecnec is the highest body to approve official projects.

Several mega development projects were approved in the meeting, according to sources.
