2nd Test: Shafique,Babar Help Team to Avoid Innings Defeat

Cape Town (January 05, 2019): Despite Shan Masood, Shafique and Babar Azam fighting innings African Bowlers swept Pakistan innings at 294 and South Africa need 41 to not only win the match but Test Series as well here at Cape Town on Saturday.

South Africa will start their innings in chase of 41 on the fourth day.

In contrast to the first Test Pakistani batsmen shown relatively best fight back and avoided an innings defeat.

Shan Masood 61 with nine fours, Asad Shafique highest scorer with 88 envisaged with 12 fours and a six while Babar Azam speedy and classy 72 with 15 fours have given Pakistan courage to avoid inning defeat.

Experience DW Steyn and K Rabada each grabbed four wickets.

Earlier, Mohammad Amir took three wickets for 19 runs as South Africa were bowled out for 431 with a led of 254 runs in the first innings. Proteas went for quick runs after resuming at 382 for six, adding 49 runs in 8.1 overs.

Amir took the first three wickets of the morning and finished with four for 88. He dismissed overnight batsmen Quinton de Kock for 59 after he added just four runs to his overnight score of 55.He next sent Vernon Philander packing for 16 followed by Kagiso Rabada for 11.

Shaheen Shah Afridi picked his fourth wicket of the match by dismissing Dale Steyn after he scored a quick 13 off 10 balls.

South Africa resumed batting on 382-6 on day three of the second Test today with a lead of 205 runs and four wickets in hand after captain Faf du Plessis led from the front. SA Skipper with a hard-earned century gave the hosts a commanding 205-run advantage at the end of the second day of the second Test.
