3-day Faiz International Festival Continues in Lahore

Lahore (November 18, 2018): The three-day fourth Faiz International Festival continued at Alhamra Arts Council, The Mall on Saunday.

This mega event is perhaps the biggest congregation of the renowned writers, intellectuals, artists, peace and human rights activists not only from Pakistan but from many other countries of the world , predominantly from India.

Renowned literary personalities, artists and intellectuals would be participating in the highly enlightening sessions and express their views.

Noted Indian poet Javed Akhtar and his film star wife Shabana Azmi attended the two-day festival.

On the opening day, Indian superstar, peace and human rights activist Shahbana Azmi expressed her views during a specially organised interactive session titled “Kafi Aur Faiz” along with Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s illustrious daughter Samila Hashmi, Faiz’s grandson Adeel and granddaughter Mira Hashmi.

Indian film director and writer Muzzafar Ali also joined Azmi at festival. The participation of well-known Indian personalities in the festival proves to be a step in the right direction, contributing to the betterment of relations between the two nations.

The mela is among some of the most famous within the country. Last year’s gala had countless members of the general public in attendance and organisers hope to see the same response this year.

Other than that, various showbiz personalities will be sharing life experiences with the members of the audience in a session titled ‘Kuch Uljhi Hui Baatein’. Furthermore, a political session named ‘Har Aik Ulil Amr Ko Sada Do’ will be carried out while singers Tina Sani and Tahira Syed will display a musical performance. Poet Zehra Nigah and Urdu language expert Dr Arfa Sayeda will hold a joint session titled ‘Wahi Khwab Moudaber Thay’.

A tribute, titled ‘Gulshane Yaad’, will be paid to legend folk singer Tufail Niazi while another session, named ‘Freedom of Expression’, will be arranged in which participants will pay tribute to late Human Rights lawyer Asma Jahangir and late journalist Munnu Bhai. Finally, a special evening with actor Zia Mohyeddin will be staged featuring talks of the vision behind Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s work.
