England All-rounder Ben Stokes Joins NZ Side Canterbury

London(November 30, 2017): Ben Stokes will be back in action after officially signing to play for New Zealand side Canterbury.

Stokes will run out at the Mainpower Oval in Rangiora to take on the Otago Volts in the 50-over Ford Trophy and will play in the T20 Burger King Super Smash until his status with England changes.

There were some suggestions that the deal might have been put in jeopardy once the Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that they had passed their file to the CPS and that a ’27-year-old man had suffered a fractured eye socket’ in the Bristol brawl under investigation. But Canterbury confirmed that they are comfortable with Stokes’ position as a man without a charge just yet and presumed innocent until proven guilty.

And mindful of the potential accusations of double standards with batsman Ken McClure stepping down after pleading guilty to assault, the New Zealand outfit believe they are acting in the right interests of Stokes and the club.
