Dubai: (January 19, 2018) Dubai hospital becomes the first to successfully conduct robot-assisted orthopedic surgeries involving partial and complete knee replacement.
Mediclinic City hospital said the AI (Artificial Intelligence) medical procedures were carried out by orthopedic surgeons Dr. Ali Al Belooshi and Dr. Saeed Al Thani.
The patient, Ahmed Al Rais, aged 47, became the first patient to receive partial knee surgery after suffering from knee osteoarthritis for two years.
“I am very happy that I was able to receive such high-quality care in my own city. I was able to move just a few hours after the surgery,” Al Rais told reporters.
At first, he was reluctant to opt for the surgery because it was robot-assisted but then he learned about medical literature on Artificial Intelligence and precision medication and was eventually convinced to undertake it.
Before the surgery, Rais was unable to walk at all but after the surgery, and enduring pain for a few days, Rais is able to walk on his own two feet. He will further receive eight post operation therapy sessions to enable him to play his favourite sport, football next year.
