People’s Court Has Given Verdict in My Favour: Nawaz

Islamabad (February 06, 2018): Former Prime Minister and President Pakistan Muslim League N, Mian Nawaz Sharif said that people’e court has given verdict in his favour. 

According to the sources, former PM held a meeting with his party leaders and lawyers in Punjab House after attending hearing in AC today.  Maryam Nawaz, Marriyam Aurangzeb, Ameer Maqam, Asif Kirmani, Haneef Abbasi, Saud Majeed and Musdiq Malik were part of the meeting.

Talking to party leaders and lawyers, former PM said that only time will tell that revengeful activities against him are anti progress and anti nation.

Former Prime Minister further said that the people’s court has given decision in his favour. He said that we have always served to the people and the country and will continue doing so. He said that we would also continue facing cases against us.

President Pakistan Muslim League said that only time will tell that his ouster was against the progress of Nation and the country.

During the meeting, PML N leaders and lawyers congratulated on holding two successful event in Peshawar and Muzzafarabad.

Earlier, the accountability court conducting corruption proceedings against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family adjourned its proceedings today owing to the absence of the defence counsel.

As the hearing went under way, Nawaz, daughter Maryam and son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar appeared in court but the hearing was adjourned until 2pm today owing to the absence of lead defence counsel Khawaja Haris.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed three corruption references against the Sharif family in September last year in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case. The references pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.

Four prosecution witnesses in the Avenfield reference will record their statements when the hearing resumes today. Moreover, the date for recording statements of two UK-based witnesses will be determined today.

Former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar reached the court for the proceeding.It will be 16th appearance of ousted premier before the accountability court.

The date of recording the statements of foreign witnesses will be determined during today’s hearing.

During previous hearing, Justice Mohammad Bashir had directed to approach foreign witnesses Robert Radley and Raja Akhtar through video linking.

NAB prosecutor said that video linking was allowed in the case of state of Maharashtra and Dr. Praful B. Desai over which, lawyer Amjad Pervez said that in this case, commission was permitted to record statements through video link.The court had also rejected Nawaz Sharif’s plea against NAB supplementary reference and summoned five witnesses of the prosecution regarding supplementary reference. He had also directed to record the statements of the witnesses living abroad via video link.

Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris raised objection over the supplementary reference, saying that it was filed by keeping in view Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report.

NAB team argued that the supplementary reference supports old allegations and that there is nothing new in it.
