Islamabad (February 09, 2018): Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi launched the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2018 today by planting a sapling at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.
On the occasion, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi highlighted the importance of Tree Plantation Campaigns that provide opportunities to strengthen our link with the nature.
The Naval Chief urged the countrymen to join hands with Pakistan Navy in this noble cause and commit to plant at least one tree each to ensure better environment for generation to come.Pakistan Navy intends to undertake massive tree plantations during the current spring season in all units and areas under responsibility from Jiwani in the West to Sir Creek in the East to contribute towards Green Pakistan program.
Pakistan Navy also plans to participate in many other activities such as Beach Cleaning and Marine Pollution Control Awareness campaign etc to improve overall environment of the country.
Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change & Member National Assembly Ms Romina Khurshid Alam and Senior Officers were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated the Spring Tree Planting Campaign by planting a sapling at PM Office with a pledge for a greener Pakistan.
He urged all Pakistanis particularly farming community to actively participate in the Spring Tree Planting Campaign 2018 by planting maximum trees.He said that the Capital Development Authority will plant saplings in collaboration with various non-government organizations, schools, colleges and universities.
The campaign is most importance in view of the fact that Pakistan’s natural forests are under persistent threat of depletion due to erratic climate change.
He said the government is taking keen interest in providing forestry and increasing the forest cover in the country.
During the campaign 100 million additional saplings will be planted to make Pakistan Greener.
