Kandy (August 28, 2017): India beat Sri host Lanka by six wickets in the third One Day International at Kandy on Sunday night, winning the five match series 3-0.
Bating first, Sri Lanka set a victory target of 218 for the loss of nine wickets. In reply, India achieved the target in 45.1 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Chasing a modest total of 218, India chased down the total with 29 balls to spare. However, there was a lot of drama towards the end as there was some unruly behavior from the crowd which forced the match to be stopped.
After a span of fifteen minutes, India came out to bat and chased down the runs. Earlier, India were in a precarious position with four batsmen back in the hut. However, the duo of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma forged a hundred-run stand to bring back India into the game.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also brought up his 12th ODI ton and MS Dhoni smashed yet another fifty to help India edge towards a win. Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 217/9 in 50 overs.
After electing to bat in the must-win contest, Sri Lanka didn’t have an ideal start as India’s new-ball bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar kept it tight and picked two wickets inside the first ten overs.
The visitors continued to impress with the ball as the bowlers gave very little away. Thirimanne and Mathews did raise some hopes but the right-hander’s poor shot ended his stay in the middle. Thirimanne, just when the hosts wanted to be around, chipped Bumrah delivery straight to Jadhav.
In the final overs, Bumrah bowled an impressive second spell to pick three more wickets and didn’t allow Sri Lanka a strong finish. Catch all live scores and updates of 3rd ODI between India and Sri Lanka here.
