MANAGUA: A 7.2 magnitude strong tremor triggered tsunami warning in Nicaragua on Thursday.
The strong earthquake hit Nicaragua after a powerful hurricane hit its eastern coast. According to the details, the epicenter of the quake was at the depth of 20 miles beneath the Pacific Ocean. Jolts were felt in Nicaraguan capital and even in Costa Rican capital San Jose.
Nicaragua president Daniel Ortega declared a state of emergency immediately. There were no immediate reports of causalities in the quake.
Thousands of people had already been evacuated from coastal areas into shelters. A total of 7000 people are expected to be evacuated in Nicaragua.
