8th Death Anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto ‘Mother of Democracy’

Karachi: The eighth death anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto, former chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and wife of former PM Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, is being observed today (Wednesday).

PPP workers across Pakistan are praying for her and paying homage to her sacrifices and hard work for the nation.

Mother of democracy, Begum Nusrat Bhutto was born on March 23, 1929, in Isfahan city of Iran.

After the demise of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, she faced challenges by Gen Ziaul Haq and stood with bravery and courage and performed the leadership of PPP with great enthusiasm.

She was a mother of four children namely; Benazir Bhutto, Sanam Bhutto, Murtaza Bhutto and Shahnawaz Bhutto.

She sacrificed her husband and three sons for the sake of democracy. Her husband Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, 51, was hanged to death. Her young son Shahnawaz was 27 when he died in France among suspicious circumstances. While elder son Murtuza Bhutto was killed in a police operation in Karachi. Nusrat’s elder daughter, former Prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, 54, was killed in 2007, in a terrorist attack in Rawalpindi.
