9 injured in Illinois University firing, seven in mass stabing in Boston

WASHINGTON:  A man has shot and injured nine people at campus of the University of Illinois, according to local media. Shots were fired in an alleyway and the shooter has fled, police said.

No fatalities have been confirmed so far, local media reported.

The shooting took place outside a local post office and about one block away from ‘The Red Lion’, a popular campus bar. Other unconfirmed reports claim one person was killed.

Several shots were fired in Green Street between Third and Fourth streets at about 1am local time, the Daily Illini reported.

An hour after the shooting, reports of a mass stabbing near a university campus in Boston emerged. Police said two suspects were at large after six people were stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning on Tremont Street in the Theatre District. One is in a critical condition and is in surgery, Boston Police Superintendent Bernard O’Rourke said.

In Illinois an alert sent out by police on Sunday morning urged locals to stay away from the area and said more information is to come.  The shooting took place behind a post office, one block away from the popular campus bar, the Red Lion Pub.
