Dar’s Corruption Reference Hearing Adjourned Until Aug 07

Islamabad (August 01, 2018): The NAB court on Wednesday adjourned the corruption reference pertaining to owning assets beyond means against former finance minister Ishaq Dar until August 07.

President of National Bank. Saeed Ahmed, Deputy Directors of Hajveri Trust, Ishtiaque Ahmed and Wasif Hussain appeared before the court, who recorded their statement.

Earlier on July 27, the Accountability Court adjourned the hearing of assets reference against Ishaq Dar till Wednesday next(today).

The court summoned three prosecution witnesses to appear in the next hearing. Earlier In June, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided to bring back former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar through Interpol over the pending corruption cases against him.

Former finance minister has been indicted by an accountability court regarding corruption trial. A case has been ongoing regarding Dar for owing assets beyond his known source of income.

Dar has been in London since last year, undergoing medical treatment.NAB will be approaching relevant Interpol authorities by filing an application with documents to bring back Ishaq Dar.

According to sources, NAB will request accountability court to issue warrants of Ishaq Dar before approaching Interpol.

Accountability court has declared Dar as absconder and NAB will advertise in newspapers that Ishaq Dar is absconder.Background Of The Reference:

The former finance minister is accused of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income.

A reference against the former finance minister was filed by NAB in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case.

Dar had earlier been declared a proclaimed offender by the accountability court due to his continuous absence from the proceedings.

In November 2017, then-prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had accepted Dar’s request to be relieved of his duties as the finance minister.
