NAB Refs Against Sharif Family: AC Adjourned Hearing Till Mar 29

Islamabad (March 21, 2018): The accountability court on Wednesday adjourned hearing into interim NAB references against the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members in Avenfield properties and Flagship Investment till 29 March and summoned Wajid Zia to appear before court on the next hearing date.

The witness Noreen Shehzad after submitting details of bank accounts in earlier proceeding submitted on Wednesday the details of the emails through which she received the accounts details.

She was cross examined by the counsel of Nawaz Sharif, Khwaja Haris. The NAB prosecutor accused Haris of confusing the prosecution witness.

In response to the judge’s query, the prosecution informed that only two witnesses remain to record their statements — Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Zia, who headed the Panama Papers case joint investigation team (JIT), and the NAB investigation officer.

The court summoned Wajid on next hearing and adjourned the case till 29 March.

Earlier on March 14, AC had adjourned hearing of Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal supplementary references against Nawaz Sharif and his family members till 21st of this month.  Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case.According to details three more witnesses had recorded their statements as the AC judge Bashir Juma resumed the hearing in Al-Azizia and Flagship case.

NAB witness and branch manager of Standard Charted Bank Wapda town Noreen Shehzadi’s statement was recorded, however commenting over the documents submitted by the witness judge termed the documents confused, unclear and not readable.On which witness told the court that they have only scanned documents not original as she has prepared the work sheet of Hussain Nawaz account.

“There is need a special optical to read such fade document, a better and readable copy should be submitted,” judge said in his remarks.

During the hearing the Hussain Nawaz’s record of US dollar account and Euro account from May 21, 2010 to April 19, 2017 has been submitted in the court.

Later another witness assistant director NAB waqar Ahmed and expert financial affairs Sher Ahmed statement was recorded while the counsel of Nawaz Sharif has also cross examined the both witnessed.Sher Khan submitted the copies of details of Habib Bank and Standard Charted accounts of Hussain Nawaz and told the court that he has the original record.

Sharif family lawyer, Khawaja Haris raising the objection over the prosecutor witness, Sher Khan, said that finance expert could not be presented as witness, on which deputy prosecutor general NAB reminded that Robert Radely was also the finance expert and his statement was recorded.

Judge said in his remarks that if finance expert only helped the investigative officer it would be lot more better, on which Sher Khan said that he has been provided the details of bank account as a finance expert.

On March 14, the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif appeared before the accountability court in NAB references filed against him and his family members.

The daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar also appeared before the court. The accountability court headed by the judge Muhammad Bashir hear the interim references against the Sharif family over Al-Azizia Mill and Flagship Investments.

The court had summoned five witnesses to testify their statements and after their statements the defense counsel Khwaja Haris argued with them.

The hearing was adjourned till March 21 (Today).
