AC Maintains Dar’s Bailable Warrant, Hearing Adj Till Nov 8

Islamabad (November 2, 2017): The Accountability Court hearing the case pertaining to corruption references filed by National Accountability Bureau against federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar decided to maintain his bailable warrant of arrest and adjourned the hearing till November.

Neither Dar nor his counsel Khawaja Haris were present in court as Judge Mohammad Bashir chairs the proceedings at the Accountability Court-I inside the Federal Judicial Complex. Dar’s guarantor Ahmad Ali Quddusi was present in the court.

When the court inquired Dar’s whereabouts, his lawyers submitted a medical report and said that their client is undergoing medical treatment in London and he is unable to walk for more than four minutes. The medical report submitted to the court says that Dar has to undergo another medical test tomorrow and angiography in London on November 3.

The NAB lawyers opposing granting exemption to Dar from appearance said that Dar should had the medical report to Foreign Office through Pakistan High Commission London.Meanwhile, NAB submitted details of Dar’s bank accounts and assets to the court. NAB prosecutor also told the court that Ishaq Dar owns properties overseas but their documents are not available.

Dar’s medical report as well as an application to grant exemption from appearance were submitted in the court, however NAB prosecutors opposed Dar’s application. The Court reserving the judgment over the application and announced a 30-minute break.

The court announced the judgment maintaining Dar’s bailable warrant.

It may be mentioned here that on the last hearing on October 30, the minister Dar was also a no-show. The court had then issued bailable warrants for his arrest and sent a notice to the minister’s guarantor who has submitted the surety bond on his behalf.The court was also expected to take up today NAB’s plea to freeze Dar’s assets. NAB had frozen the assets after its chairman ordered to do so on October 18 but it needs the court’s endorsement as according to NAB laws, the order is only valid for 15 days.

NAB is seeking the freezing of Dar’s six bank Accounts , properties and vehicles in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates as well as investments in both countries.NAB has listed the properties and assets of Dar as follows: A house in Gulberg, Lahore, a two-kanal plot in Parliamentarians Enclave, Islamabad, a two-kanal plot with Ayaz Builders (Pvt) Ltd, a plot in Senate Cooperative Housing Society, Islamabad, a two kanal and 19 marla plot in the name of Mrs Tabassum Dar, three plots in Alflah Housing Society, Lahore owned by Dar, his wife and son Ali Mustafa Dar and six acres in Mouza Milot owned by him and his wife.
