AC Maintains Hassan, Hussain Nawaz’s Absconder Status

Islamabad (November 15, 2017): The accountability court hearing corruption references against Sharif family maintained the absconder status of former Prime Minister’s sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.

The court heard the NAB references against the two brothers. The court while maintaining their status as absconder adjourned hearing of the case till Nov 22, 2017.

Though during the hearing of NAB references against Nawaz Sharif and others,  Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Harris inquired about the status of Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz. Judge Muhammad Bashir responded that the 30-day deadline given to them to appear before the court had expired and they failed to show up.

The judge remarked that they would be treated as proclaimed offenders. However, when the court formally took up the cases against them for hearing, it deferred the decision to formally declare them proclaimed offenders.

The court is likely to declare them proclaimed offenders on next date of hearing.

It is to be mentioned here that the accountability court had separated their trail from Nawaz Sharif and others in the references and had ordered initiating proceeding to declare them proclaim offender.

During yesterday hearing, NAB submitted a report in the court detailing the steps taken by it to complete the procedure for declaring them absconders.  The bureau after submitting the report had requested the court to declare them proclaimed offenders, saying that the accused were deliberately avoiding to appear before the court.Deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been indicted in all three corruption references regarding Avenfield properties, Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment, while Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (r) Safdar were indicted in reference regarding Avenfield properties alone.
