AC Reserves Verdict over Dar’s Plea Exemption from Appearance

Islamabad (November 21, 2017): The Accountability Court has reserved the judgment whether or not to grant exemption to federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar from personal appearance while hearing of the NAB reference against him for accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.

The court also reserved the judgment over plea made by Dar’s counsel to permit his client to appoint a representative.

At the start of the hearing today Dar’s counsels plead the Judge of Accountability Court Muhammad Bashir to grant their client exemption from personal appearance.

Dar’s lawyers also submitted a tird medical report of their client who they said is undergoing medical at a London hospital. According to the report one of Dar’s blood veins is not working properly and that he has been called again for medical checkup on November 27.At this point NAB prosecutor Imran Shafiq plead the court that Ishar Dar is an absconder in the case and the court should initiate proceedings to declare him proclaimed offender. NAB prosecutors also submitted report over the non-bailable warrant of Dar.

The report said that raids were conducted in Lahore and Islamabad residences for Dar’s arrest so as to implement his arrest warrants but the suspect has fled overseas along with his family.

 

It may be mentioned here that during the last hearing NAB had submitted the report over the implementation report over Dar’s bailable warrant had plead the court to issue his non-bailable warrant of arrest.

The Court issuing Dar’s non-bailable warrant of arrest had also issued show cause notice to his guarantor Ahmad Ali Quddusi warning that if Dar would fail to appear before the court on next hearing, that is today, the Rs 5 million surety bonds would be confiscated.

At the start of the hearing today the media representatives were stopped by the security to enter the court, housed in the Judicial Complex here, telling them that they would be allowed to enter it after 9 o’clock.

The court has already issued Dar’s non-bailable warrant for failing to appear before the court during previous hearings. During today’s hearing the court will consider the request of NAB prosecutors to declare Dar a proclaimed offender.

It may be mentioned here that Dar went to London and his counsel submitted a medical certificate on the last hearing that Dar is undergoing treatment at a hospital in London.

The Accountability Court had issued Dar’s non-bailable arrest on November 14 for failing to appear before the court for the fifth time.
