AC Summons Nawaz in Flagship Reference Today

Islamabad (December 05, 2018): The Accountability Court (AC) on Tuesday rejecting former prime minister Nawaz Sharif plea for exemption from hearing in flagship case has summoned him today, Wednesday, to record his statement.

Earlier yesterday, Judge Arshad Malik resumed the hearing in Al-Azizia and Flagship Reference as Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris started his arguments after the completion of arguments by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Wasiq Malik.

Khawaja Haris told the court that the prosecutor could not bring a single evidence over Nawaz Sharif’s Benami transactions.

He said in his arguments that son had sent money to his father Nawaz Sharif from Hill Metal, however, he had not sent any kind of money from Al-Azizia Steel Mills accounts and he has the same stance from day one of the case.He has the stance that JIT has not made any investigations over Hill Metal and termed his client Benami but no evidence had presented.

“At the time of the establishment of Al-Azizia Steel Mills Nawaz Sharif had not possessed any public office and also he has not any share in it than how he explain such assets which had not to belong to him,” he said.

He reminded that court that JIT mentioned the money sent to Maryam Nawaz despite that she was not nominated in the case.Haris argued that prosecutor said the Gulf Steel Mills agreement was fake, in fact, Nawaz Sharif had never dependent on Gulf Steel and even he had no direct information in this connection.

“JIT Wrote in its report Nawaz Sharif talks on Gulf Steel were information he heard without any evidence while JIT quoted that Nawaz Sharif had not dependent on Qatari letters,” he told the court.

“Do you mean Qatari letters were only the stance of Hussain Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif did not depend on them in his 342 pages statement,” the judge asked Haris.“Yes, Qatari letters were from Hussain Nawaz as evidence showed that Abbas Sharif, Rabia Sharif and Hussain Nawaz were the only shareholders of the Al-Azizia mills,” he replied.

Later, Nawaz Sharif submitted a plea for the exemption to appear on Wednesday in the case, the, however, judge expressed dismay and ordered him to appear before the court.
