Achakzai, AJK PM Not Allowed To Meet Nawaz In Jail

Rawalpindi (August 09, 2018): Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chief, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider and Senator Usman Kakar were not permitted to meet former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at Rawalpindi’s Adyala jail on Thursday.

Achakzai reached the jail along with Senator Usman Kakar to meet the deposed premier earlier today, however, they were both denied permission.

Talking to the media outside the jail, the PkMAP chief said, “I have been in Islamabad for the past two weeks and have been denied permission to meet Nawaz each time I have tried.”

“This is no way to treat a three-time prime minister,” he added.

“The Constitution grants permission to inmates to meet everyone,” Achakzai added.Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif is en route to the jail to meet Nawaz, sources said.

According to sources, Shehbaz will discuss the PML-N’s future course of action with Nawaz.

Other senior PML-N leaders, including Marriyam Aurangzeb, Abid Sher Ali, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Saad Rafique, have also arrived at Adyala jail to meet the former premier.

Nawaz Sharif Shifted Back To Adyala Jail From PIMS

Earlier on July 31, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences to Adyala jail.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo is currently serving his prison sentence after being convicted in a corruption case by the accountability court.

The decision of shifting him back to Adyala jail was taken after viewing the reports of doctors who declared his health was improving.

Nawaz was shifted as per his own wish amid stringent security measures.The former premier was admitted to PIMS’ coronary care unit on doctors’ advice, who examined him after he complained of chest pain. A notification issued later declared the medical facility’s cardiac ward as a ‘sub-jail’.

The medical board headed by Dr Ejaz Qadeer and comprising cardiologist Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr Shaji Siddiqui, neurologist Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood carried out medical checkup of the former PM at the jail after he complained about pain in his arm and chest.

Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam were arrested on July 13, minutes after they returned from Britain seeking to revitalise their flagging PML-N party ahead of the July 25 election.

An anti-corruption court sentenced him on July 6 to 10 years while his daughter and political heir were sentenced to seven years over the purchase of luxury flats in London in the 1990s.

Shehbaz Arrives At PIMS, Inquires After Nawaz’s Health

Earlier on July 30, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif arrived at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) to inquire after the health of Nawaz Sharif. According to sources, the former Punjab chief minister had a meeting with Nawaz Sharif that lasted for about 15 minutes. Two men accompanied Shehbaz to the building but were not allowed to enter Nawaz’s ward.
