Actions taken against anchors/TV channels for broadcasting hate materials, incitement to violence: Pemra  

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has rejected the impression that it did not take any action against those channels and anchorperson for showing/broadcasting hate materials and inciting to violence, saying that during the last 16 months it took action against various channels and anchors.

A press release issued from Islamabad said that in the wake of broadcast of hate materials and recent violent incidents some anchors and columnists tried to give the impression that Pemra was not fulfilling its responsibilities regarding checking hate-materials and incitement to violence on TV channels.

The press release said that it was also said that the regulatory body did not take any action against dissemination of hate materials and inciting to violence by some TV channels.

It clarified that during last 16 months the regulatory body took action against several anchorpersons and TV channels for broadcasting hate materials.

It added Pemra expects the columnists and anchorpersons would present the true picture of events and facts. It added that for creating harmony and peace, there is a need that TV channels, Pemra and other state institutions should work together.
