ISLAMABAD: Special envoy of the United States for Afghanistan peace process, Zalmay Khalilzad, on Friday held meeting with the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
US Secretary of State’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Ambassador Khalilzad exchanged views on recent developments made on Afghanistan reconciliation process during his meeting with the FM Qureshi.
On the occasion, FM Qureshi reiterated that Islamabad will continue its sincere efforts to facilitate peace establishment in Afghanistan crucial for stability of the region. He added that establishment of peace with reconciliation was a joint responsibility.
The visiting dignitary thanked the Foreign Minister on behalf of US government for facilitating direct dialogues between the Afghan Taliban and the United States. Khalilzad said that US government acknowledged Islamabad’s effort for peace process in Afghanistan.
Khalilzad, who was visiting the Asian countries for the fifth time, was arrived in Islamabad on Thursday with a high-level delegation comprising officials of US State Department, defence and National Security Council.
Khalilzad’s visit was scheduled after US President Donald Trump made announcement that he would bring home half of the 14,000 US troops in Afghanistan as he grows increasingly impatient over America´s longest-ever war.
