Afghan President Discusses Upcoming Peace Talks In Turkey With US Secretary Of State

KABUL: President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani said on Tuesday he had discussed the upcoming Afghanistan peace talks, planned to be held in Turkey, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“Today, I spoke with Secretary @ABlinken. We discussed the ongoing peace process, the upcoming peace talks in Turkey, and also spoke about the upcoming phone call with President @JoeBiden,” Ghani wrote on Twitter.

The talks are set to be held in Istanbul from April 24 to May 4, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

Despite cooperation between US and Afghan government officials leading up to the discussions, one of the main factions in the peace talks the Taliban announced yesterday that they are backing out of the talks.
